Alexander Dzigurski (1911-1995, Yugoslavia & U.S.) "Big Sur, Waves at Sunset" and "Crashing Waves on Oregon Coast," both oil on canvas.
William Aiken Walker (1839-1921). Walker, a Confederate soldier in the Civil War, is best known for his portraits of the poor black workers of the South’s cotton fields, mostly painted in the early 1880s to the mid 1890s. Few paintings depicting true slavery exist. You can see the toll the slave’s life’s work has taken on his body, especially in his face and hands. Walker was fortunate in that his paintings were collected in his lifetime and sold in the $70-$100 range in the early 1900s. You can see from the back of this painting it was originally offered at $3.50, confirming its circa 1885 origin.
Georges Philibert Charles Maroniez (1865-1933, France). Known for sunsets in landscapes and seascapes. Using luminous, caressing light, he transposed the grey country roads of his birthplace with light. Member, Salon des Artistes Francais; exhibited at the Paris Salon, and was a Knight of the Legion of Honor.
